(I use another machine that runs a formatter in a loop). Although ocasionally higher quality disks can improve their read/writeability if left spinning for an hour or so. If any tracks fail, it's off to the defective pile or the trash. It also ensures "odd" tracks and extra tracks are wiped. The upshot is it tests "gap" areas between sectors that can be missed by a DOS formatter, yet can be important for writing non-DOS, oddball, or copy protected formats later. For double density 48TPI "360k" 5.25 inch disks, I test using double density at 96TPI (quad density) in a 1.2mb drive. Oddly the Kryoflux has no similar functionality. Although note the current 1.95 software has some issues with certain floppy drives (I use 1.91). When re-certifying and wiping floppy disks, I normally use the SuperCard Pro's media test.
